Designation:
Enhancing
seismic resistance and durability of
natural stone masonry (UG3).

Objectives:
The research has five
main objectives: 1) Demonstration of
natural stone masonry reinforcement with
polymer grids: the method is simple and
no qualified labour or technology is
requested; 2) Behaviour of the new stone
masonry reinforced in horizontal layers:
the well known X-cracks of plain masonry
no longer occur; 3) Behaviour of
repaired stone masonry confined with
polymer grids: the masonry structural
members are simply wrapped around and
plastered with lime mortar, without or
with little cement, what is useful for
existing monuments; 4) Behaviour of
different types of reinforcements
produced in the EU: the method is
generalised and a competition for
quality is opened; 5) Data collection
for validation by numerical analysis: a
computing basis is necessary for
preparing guidelines for designers and
contractors.
